The Williams' Sisters Are Making First in NFL

August 20, 2009

Dear HipHop Fam,

The William Sister's Are Who's Hot!
Venus and Serena William are on the move again. This time they are becoming part owners of the NFL's Miami Dolphins. The details aren't being released until next Tuesday, but like the Estefans and Jimmy Buffett, they have had invitations extended to them by the franchise. The Williams' sisters joining the Miami Dolphins is big in that they would represent the first significant African-American ownership presence in the NFL.
Now that's what's up!
It's just Mia and what are your thoughts?

WT*? MMA Fighter Allowed to Fight After Testing Positive

August 8, 2009

Dear HipHop Fam,
Who said sports were safe?

Yesterday Al Joslin confirmed that one of the competitors was allowed to fight in a March 7 bout in Tulare, CA despite having tested positive for Hepatitis C and not having HIV results on file. He said he learned of it about a week ago when he was leaked a copy of a memo stating this fact. Who's responsible for disclosing this information? The California State Athletic Commission is responsible for clearing all boxing in the state, and that includes MMA fights.

The memo was date July 22 a full 20 days after the fight and it did not identify the fighter, instead it urged for those who had contact to get tested and "was written to protect the commission, rather than doing something about the fighter," Joslin said.

It's just Mia and is anyone disturbed about this besides me?

Got $5 You Could Buy a Fighter Jet

August 7, 2009

Dear HipHop Fam,

When the crack epidemic struck America in the mid 80's, the spotlight was on the dying users, foreign suppliers, American dealers and kingpins. American declared war on drugs and those involved. Yet no one seem to address those transporting or turning a blind eye to the importation of crack into America.

In media today, transparency has afforded us glimpses of the behind the scene lives of those prosecuted and not prosecuted. So who helped traffic in the crack? Why weren't they prosecuted? I guess there isn't that much transparency where it really matters. We are flooded who is married to whom and who's having a baby by whom, but we can't keep up with drugs, guns, money and now fighter jets being that are being sold on the black market.

This is why I question how can someone sell four fuselages of MiG-31 interceptor fighter jets on the black market AND for as little as $5 when they are worth $3.7 million? Russian corruption is rampant prosecutors say and then they were purchased by a dummy corporation. How, why and where they were found was not disclosed and I wonder if we will ever hear about the story again.

So help me keep an eye out for end to this story. Let's just talk.

It's just Mia. Have a Blessed Day!

Come On MAN! He Blamed the Cat for Child Porn

August 7, 2009

Dear HipHop Fam,

Here's another story for my Funny Fridays segment to send you off to your weekend with a Blessed, deep, soul cleansing laugh.

For the past few years, I've been chided by a few friends for always saying: It ain't like that, but it's like that. Why? Because of the old saying, "If you aren't gonna to say something nice, then don't say nothing at all." So my response is, if you don't want me to answer your question, then don't ask.

So my friends, here is another classic example of why that saying rings so true! Keith Griffin of Jensen Beach, Florida was charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography after police found over 1000 photos on his computer. Now how one only gets 10 counts for 1000 images of child pornography speaks volumes to our justice system, but that's another story.

So when the police found the images, Griffin not only denied downloading the pictures, he blamed them on his cat! The report states that he was downloading music (hummmm, wonder if that was legal or not?), got up for something and his cat jumped up on the keyboard. When he returned there were "strange images" on the monitor.

Now when my cat jumps up on the keyboard it get gibberish; I suspect most people do. And he didn't erase the images? Instead saved them and downloaded additional images? Or did the cat download those, too? This story is crazy.

It's just Mia and you have a Blessed weekend!

Why Are Second Chances So Hard 2 Give?

August 3, 2009

HipHop Fam,

Why are second chances so hard for folks to give? I mean shouldn't people be allowed to start over and rejoin society after they've admitted to their mistake, paid for the offenses and "did time" so to speak?
Take our long lost loves Michael Vick, Chris Brown and Plaxico Burress. Each in their own right were beast of their professions and each have made ridiculous mistakes. But honestly, isn't that what a mistake is...something we've done that's ridiculous? The Merriam-Webster.com/dictionary states mistake as "a blunder in the choice of (something)...to be wrong."
These men are being boycotted, black-listed, and publicly humiliated still for making mistakes that they have admitted to making, asked for forgiveness and paid or will pay the appropriate fine for. Yet because they're famous they are still paying the price.
Isn't it what God wants: us to forgive, not forget, but to forgive and love as if (they hadn't) committed the transgressions? I know we are not all perfect, and I can still even learn to forgive more; so here is my chance. Are you down?
It's just Mia and these are my thoughts.
Namaste
